Here is a color study of Maui, off the coast of Lahaina harbor.  The Iao Valley is visible, the big indentation at the left . . ..the pali or mountains of Maui are so different from each perspective.

The beautiful white star shaped bloom tinted with violet, pink or green is a gorgeous sight.  Is it the contrast of white and pastel shades against the dry, rocky background ?  Or the beautiful form?  Sacred datura, or jimsonweed, blooms throughout the southwest.  I couldn't wait to paint this one.
