Here is a painted impressionist study of a thicket of wildflowers at the edge of a forest, from a photo taken a couple years ago.  The wildflowers that year were thick and spectacular; the image is from the Gold Lakes / Sierra Buttes area which is definitely a high elevation alpine region.  This summer I want very much to return again for more hiking, painting and kayaking!

I am a little Teapot...

This painting reminds me of the nursery rhyme - I am a little Teapot short and stout.. Here is my handle... It was fun to paint it thinking of the times when my daughter used to love this song.

Embrace Failure to Achieve Success

Failure Teaches Success
                                                                 Japanese Saying

Seven Pie Apples

One of my sons, who is a painter, asked me about the quality of my work, saying something like, "Mom, how do you consistently create these paintings?"

My answer was to quote the above Japanese saying as well as telling him to allow yourself to have failures.  We learn from our failures.   If a painting isn't working and you consider it a failure, learn from it and
move on.  Each work leads to the next.

Serendipity

Three Star Fruit
5" x 7"

This little alla prima painting came about because someone left a bowl of these unique fruits where I could help myself.  That was the intention.  I bet they thought the fruit would be eaten rather than painted.

It's still spring in northern California!  The cool weather is lingering, the trees in the orchards are still in bloom here and there.  Summer is coming but at the moment, spring is hanging on.  I painted this last spring en plein air in a local little orchard;  a sweet place.

Lorikeet - by Desiree

We spent a glorious day in San Diego at the Wild Animal Park. It was full of baby animals and nesting birds. I will have fun painting the next few weeks!

Tropical Fragrance by Nancy Goldman

This was such a fun painting.  I love these flowers.  I know I say that about almost every flower but I am a gardener so that's to be expected.  Plumeria are such fragrant beauties.  They remind me of my first trip to Hawaii and bring back wonderful memories.  I painted this on Ampersand's Aquabord which I love.  I also really like this 6" x 6" format.  When they are framed in the drop-in frames, they look stunning and none of the painting is hidden behind the frame.  You can see what I mean below:
