An exceptional basket weaver, Mamie Gregory (1867-1947) a Panamint Shoshone who was born and lived in Death Valley, CA, wove exceptional baskets decorated with lizards, spirals and butterflies which earned her the name Madame Butterfly. You can read more about her and my Indian Women Portrait series on my web site.
