"Gold Lakes Summer", acrylic painting by Lynne Cunningham

"Gold Lakes Summer", acrylic on canvas,

24" x 30", available unframed

$1000.

please contact through email if interested in purchase ~

New work going up soon at Seasons Restaurant, downtown Davis!  This is one of the paintings to be hung at the restaurant.  It's unusual for me because I don't usually work in acrylic on canvas;  in acrylic I usually paint on paper.  I was reading about a technique new to me and decided to try it on canvas, with the reference photo below that I've had in my photo library for several years.  The reference photo is from the Gold Lakes region of the Sierras, between Grass Valley and Graeagle .

It was fun to work out the composition on this one - it's fun when you feel it's successful !

"Bridalveil" is a small painting of the beautiful falls in Yosemite.  They leave me speechless every time I see the falls from the meadow area.  In my painting there seems to be clouds dancing on the rim of view; winds were catching the water and creating veils of vapor before falling over the edge.

On view next week (Tuesday) after Thanksgiving at Seasons Restaurant  in Davis.  If you'd like to see the beautiful framing for these, see this post  .  If you'd like to read more about the artist, see website

And so the marathon of painting small works has begun, for the 50-50 show at the Sanchez Art Center .  Fifty paintings in fifty days.  The group show reception is August 26th.    All paintings are 6"x6", finished on the sides, ready for hanging and available on a pre-sale.  I have a theme and some sub-themes I'll be working in for the collection.  See my blog, "Paintbox Journal" for the backstory; working as a painter, my inspirations and what I'm currently painting or where exhibiting.  Good things are happening this summer!

Here is a painted impressionist study of a thicket of wildflowers at the edge of a forest, from a photo taken a couple years ago.  The wildflowers that year were thick and spectacular; the image is from the Gold Lakes / Sierra Buttes area which is definitely a high elevation alpine region.  This summer I want very much to return again for more hiking, painting and kayaking!
